Like most people, I started to scrutinize ingredients after having children. I became paranoid about harmful chemical ingredients in our cleaning products and unnatural ingredients in food. I realized making your own stuff really isn’t as hard as it seems and so much better for you and your family! Since the kitchen is the heart of our family, using an all natural cleaning spray was a priority. I found a basic recipe in Real Simple magazine and adjust the essential oils to what I have in stock. This is an all purpose spray that disinfects using essential oils and vodka! I buy Costco/Kirkland brand vodka. I use the brand Plant Therapy for essential oils. These particular essential oils have antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. This recipe makes 2.5 cups (20 oz) of cleaning solution. I use a plastic spray bottle because I’m too worried about breaking a glass bottle but a glass bottle spray would be ideal.
1/2 cup vodka
1/2 cup distilled white vinegar
1.5 cups water
10 drops lemon essential oil
10 drops lavender essential oil
10 drops tea tree oil
10 drops peppermint/eucalyptus (optional)
I always keep lemon, tea tree and lavender essesntial oils in stock. But if you don’t want to keep too many oils you can skip peppermint or eucalyptus. Just add a few extra drops of the other 3 oils for about 35-40 drops for the solution.
UPDATE: To make disinfecting wipes, use all natural baby wipes (such as Huggies Natural Care) and soak them in this solution. Store them in an air tight container such as a jar or I personally use reusable plastic bags. Links below!
